The NGO Roma Cultural Center together with its partners from Croatia, Poland, Lithuania and Estonia presents: Roma History remembrance project

Within Roma History remembrance project "Living Memory" there were successfully carried out the following preparatory activities and 5 events:

During last two weeks of August, 2017, there was organized first project partner meeting in Latvia, where representatives from all project partners participated. During this activity Partners came together, discussed and agreed on project implementation plan, communication plan, responsibilities, action plan and timetable for all project activities. Partners agreed on methodology for planned project activities, as well as project result dissemination plan was developed.

Event 1:

Seminars on Roma Holocaust aimed at history teachers of secondary schools

The event involved even more participants than planned: 264 in total – 39 participants in Poland, 40 participants in Lithuania, 50 participants in Estonia, 92 participants in Croatia, 43 participants in Riga.

Short description Seminar program for secondary school teachers on Roma Holocaust was developed. Seminars for history teachers were held in all 5 project partners countries. All project partners were involved in delivering the seminar in their respective country.
The results 5 seminars on Roma Holocaust aimed at history teachers of secondary schools were carried out in all project parter countries. Through history teachers project foresees to indirectly reach at least 2500 school children.

Event 2:

Continuation of video interviews of the living witnesses and victims under totalitarian regime

The event was organized as part of larger event (Event 3) involving 150 participants.

Short description Project continued to create video archives and written testimonials of living witnesses and victims of social nationalism. Gathering live history, Holocaust witnesses and victims from Croatia, Balkan region and Poland were interviewed. Written testimonials were gathered from Latvian Roma Holocaust witnesses.
The result Digital fixation of the interviews with living witnesses and victims from extended project partner countries as an important addition to the archives of the Museum and virtual data platforms.

Event 3:

Organization of Roma history remembrance conference for Roma elders

The event involved 303 participants from 29 countries.
Riga, Latvia on 19/10/2017 – 21/10/2017
Roma history remembrance conference for Roma elders was organized in Riga, Latvia. Roma youth meet with living witnesses of the World War II, they were conducting interviews with the survivors and collecting testimonies.
Within the framework of the conference, a letter to the EVZ Foundation was prepared and signed by conference delegates from 29 countries for assistance to Roma victims of the Samudaripen (Roma Holocaust).
The result Roma History remembrance was popularized amongst the young generation. More than 300 participants from 29 countries took part in the Roma history remembrance conference for Roma elders.

Event 4:

Creation of Web platform for accumulation of the video materials

Short description During project implementation period, special web platform was created for accumulation of the video account incorporating obtained materials through video interviews with the survivors of Roma Holocaust as well as contributed materials from dedicated research on Roma history.
The result All materials generated during the project will serve as living memory and will be accumulated digitally on www.livingmemory.lv . Materials are available for anyone and they reach very wide audience. At least 100 000 views within 6 months are planned to reach.

Event 5:

Project closing event and distribution of Project results

The event involved 53 participants.

Short descriptionProject closing event was organized as 1-day event. Results were presented to project partners that were involved in project activities, politicians, decision makers, representatives from ministries and mass media.
The result Information about project results and experience of implementation of the project were distributed during Project closing event to reach the audience, which influences and forms public opinion. Through mass media we planned to reach at least 5000.
